Thiruvananthapuram | Keralam has continued to experience above-normal temperatures amid weak monsoon conditions, with several parts of the state recording maximum temperatures three to four degrees Celsius above normal.
According to a latest IMD data, Punalur in Kollam district recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state at 35.2 degrees Celsius, 3.3 degrees above normal, while Palakkad recorded 34.3 degrees, four degrees above normal.
Kozhikode also recorded 34.3 degrees, 3.6 degrees above normal, and CIAL Kochi registered 34.1 degrees, 3.4 degrees above normal.
The hot and relatively dry conditions were also reflected in electricity consumption.
Keralam recorded 94.76 million units (MU) of power consumption on September 8, according to Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) data.
Of this, 22.85 MU was generated within the state, while 72.91 MU was met through power imports.
The state's maximum power demand on September 8 touched 4,851 MW at 6.44 pm, indicating continued pressure on the grid during the evening peak.
KSEB data showed that water storage in the state's reservoirs stood at 63.55 per cent of their capacity, while the storage was 80.03 per cent of the level during the corresponding period last year.
The lower storage levels could put pressure on hydel power generation if weak monsoon conditions persist, even as high temperatures keep electricity demand elevated, officials said.
