Kochi | In the midst of subtle contractions in the mobile telecom sector, the latest Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) report discloses a marginal decline of 0.18% in the overall mobile subscriber base in Kerala. However, within this landscape of adjustments, Jio stands out as the frontrunner, showcasing a remarkable 9.22% growth, counterbalancing the sector's overall reduction.
Over the past year, Jio has defied the trend, witnessing a substantial surge of almost 9 lakhs, elevating its subscriber base from 97.5 lakhs to over 106 million. Bharti Airtel also displayed resilience, with a commendable increase of 6.59%, attracting over 5 lakhs new subscribers. Unfortunately, Vodafone Idea (Vi) faced a formidable challenge, experiencing a sharp decline of 7.07%, resulting in a loss of over 10 lakhs subscribers. Simultaneously, the state-owned BSNL witnessed a reduction of 4.41% in its wireless customer base.
While the mobile sector undergoes adjustments, the wireline segment exhibits a noteworthy surge, growing by 4.97% of the total subscriber base. Jio, once again, leads the charge with an exceptional 42.58% increase, incorporating over 85,000 new users. This expansion highlights Jio's robust push into the broadband sector. Bharti Airtel closely follows with a substantial 17.76% increase, underscoring their commitment to expanding their reach in the wireline domain. In contrast, BSNL's wireline segment experienced a slight decline of 3.33%.
According to the latest TRAI report, despite the overall reduction in Kerala's mobile subscriber base, Jio continues to solidify its position as India's strongest telecom network. In October alone, Jio gained an impressive 31.6 lakh new subscribers in the country. Presently, 39% of mobile subscribers in the country are Jio subscribers, emphasizing the company's significant influence amidst the broader industry shifts in Kerala.
