New Delhi | "Gandhari", featuring Taapsee Pannu, is set to release on Netflix on September 3.
The film is directed by Devashish Makhija and is produced by Kanika Dhillon. It also features Ishwak Singh, Chhaya Kadam, Swastika Mukherjee, Mita Vashisht and Jatin Sarna, according to a press release.
It is set against the atmospheric backdrop of a fictitious town, Joypurra, and follows a story of unwavering belief, quiet resilience and unflinching courage. At its heart lies Bani, a mother whose devotion is tested at every turn, compelling her to confront challenges.
The film also reunites Netflix with Dhillon and Pannu following their collaboration on "Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba". Dhillon said the film is a story of a "woman who refused to be defined by her circumstances." "Bani's journey is raw, relentless and deeply personal, and that is what drew me to her from the very beginning. Reuniting with Taapsee once again has been incredibly special - there is a deep creative trust and understanding that we have built over the years, and watching her bring Bani to life with such commitment and intensity was truly rewarding," she said in a statement.
Ruchikaa Kapoor Sheikh, Director of Original Films, Netflix India, said, "'Gandhari' is a bold, emotionally charged action thriller that turns a mother's love into a force- fierce, instinctive and impossible to ignore." "We are delighted to reunite with Pannu and Kanika Dhillon, building on a creative partnership we deeply value and carrying it into a strikingly different space with Devashish Makhija at the helm," she added.
It is produced under Kathha Pictures.
