New Delhi | Actor Anil Kapoor went down memory lane and shared a video from his film "Nayak" on social media as it completed 25 years of release.
The film was directed by S Shankar and also starred Rani Mukerji and Amrish Puri in pivotal roles. It released on September 7, 2001 and featured the actor in the role of Shivaji Rao.
Kapoor shared the post on his Instagram handle on Monday and recalled what made him agree for the film. "25 years of Nayak. drew me to Shivaji Rao was never just the journey from a common man to the Chief Minister. It was what he chose to do once he got there, to use the power he had to make a difference to the people," he wrote in the caption.
"To portray a role with that kind of purpose was a privilege, and perhaps that is why 'Nayak' continues to find its way back to people even after 25 years. The love for your country, and the desire to do better for the people will never be irrelevant, and I will always be proud to have been a part of such a story," he added.
The film revolved around his character, Rao, an honest TV journalist who becomes the Chief Minister of Maharashtra for a day.
It went on to earn over Rs 20 crore at the box office and was declared a flop, but later went on to emerge as a cult classic film
