New Delhi | Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan remembered "Kaante" filmmaker Sanjay Gupta and called him a "fellow artiste and a true devotee of art".
Gupta died after sustaining a head injury in a fall at his Versova residence. He was 59. He is known for films such as "Shootout at Lokhandwala" and "Mumbai Saga", among others and has also served as a producer on several projects.
Bachchan shared an emotional note on his blog on Sunday as he remembered the filmmaker.
"A friend, a fellow artiste and a true devotee of art has left us at such a young age! I am unable to understand how all of this is happening," he wrote in the post.
"Our dear companions from the world of art are being snatched away from us. What wrong have they done to deserve such a fate? People say that all the powerful planets in the solar system have turned unfavourable at the same time. Please have mercy on us! Those who are raining their wrath upon us – is this really fair," he added.
"Kaante" released in 2002 and featured the actor in the role of Yashvardhan 'Major' Rampal alongside Sanjay Dutt, Suniel Shetty, and Kumar Gaurav.
Gupta started as a director in 1994 with "Aatish: Feel the Fire", featuring Dutt, Atul Agnihotri and Aditya Pancholi. He is survived by his wife, Anuradha Lekhi Gupta, and their children, Shivaansh Gupta and Dalai Gupta.
