Mumbai | State Bank of India (SBI) marked the centennial milestone of its historic Horniman Circle branch with the unveiling of a ₹100 commemorative coin by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The event also launched the 5th edition of The Evolution of State Bank of India, chronicling the bank’s journey from 1981 to 1996.
The Grade 2A heritage branch, a cornerstone of India’s banking history, was established in 1863 as part of the Bank of Bombay. Its legacy reflects a blend of architectural grandeur and a commitment to financial inclusion.
Finance Minister Sitharaman highlighted SBI’s transformative role in India’s banking sector, with over 22,640 branches, 63,000 ATMs, and 50 crore customers. Chairman C.S. Setty reaffirmed SBI’s dedication to innovation and nation-building, calling it "The Banker to Every Indian."
