Manav Suthar (4/76) and Ravindra Jadeja (3/57) shared 7 wickets between them as India took a lead of 178 runs in the first innings against Sri Lanka, who were bowled out for 284 on the third day

Galle | Manav Suthar (4/76) and Ravindra Jadeja (3/57) shared seven wickets between them as India took a lead of 178 runs in the first innings against Sri Lanka, who were bowled out for 284 on the third day of the opening Test here on Monday.

Left-arm spinner Suthar and veteran all-rounder Jadeja were the pick among the bowlers for India, while pacers Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna, and Chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav claimed one wicket apiece.

Sonal Dinusha scored his maiden Test century, making 100 off 168 balls with four fours and two sixes to lead Sri Lanka's resistance. This was after the hosts were reduced to 99 for five at lunch.

Niroshan Dickwella scored 80 off 115 balls with seven fours but he missed out on his personal milestone.

Dinusha, who wa playing just his fourth match, and Dickwella added 146 runs in a stoic partnership for the fifth wicket, which not only helped Sri Lanka avoid the follow-on but also helped in reducing the first-innings deficit to a large extent.

India were bowled out for 462 in their first innings earlier in the day.

Brief scores: India 462 lead Sri Lanka 284 in 79.4 overs (Sonal Dinusha 100, Niroshan Dickwella 80; Manav Suthar 4/76, Ravindra Jadeja 3/57) by 178 runs.
