Thiruvananthapuram | The BJP alleged on Monday that Congress and its ally, the Indian Union Muslim League, struck a "secret deal" promising the IUML the Deputy Chief Minister’s post and six ministerial berths should the UDF win the April 9 Assembly polls.

Addressing a press conference here, BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar asked the Congress to clarify whether such an assurance had been given to the IUML.

He also demanded that the Congress leadership disclose to the public any alleged understandings involving the IUML, Jamaat-e-Islami and SDPI.

“The Muslim League is controlling the Congress through a remote control. Congress itself admits to having a deal with Jamaat-e-Islami. Then what is the nature of the deal between the Muslim League and the Congress?” he asked.

Chandrasekhar alleged that the Congress was indulging in “false propaganda” as part of its election campaign.

“The Congress is the most shameless party in the world. It is ready to spread any kind of lies for political gain,” he said.

He claimed that while the BJP was running a “positive campaign” focusing on a developed Kerala, the Congress campaign was centred around spreading misinformation at regular intervals.

Referring to Congress guarantees, Chandrasekhar alleged that similar promises made in Telangana had not been fulfilled.

“They promised Rs 15,000 per acre to farmers, Rs 500 bonus for paddy, loan waivers, Rs 2,500 per month for women, 10 grams of gold, Rs 1 lakh for BPL families and two lakh government jobs in the first year. But none of these promises has been implemented,” he said.

He further alleged that Telangana’s financial situation had worsened, with the state’s debt crossing Rs 10 lakh crore.

Chandrasekhar also accused the Congress of "spreading misinformation" regarding the FCRA amendment bill, claiming that it was being portrayed as “anti-Christian” to create fear among minority communities.

He said Congress leaders were now raising allegations of “deal politics”, while at the same time being part of alliances with parties including the CPI(M) in several states under the INDIA bloc.

BJP state general secretary M T Ramesh alleged that the Congress in Kerala had been “subsumed” by the Muslim League.

“In the UDF, the Muslim League holds more influence than the Congress. The Congress has become subservient to the League,” he said.

Ramesh also alleged that the IUML was engaging in political arrangements with organisations like Jamaat-e-Islami and SDPI, and in some places even with the CPI(M), with the Congress giving silent consent.

He said both the UDF and the LDF were under the illusion that they could form a broad alliance against the BJP and defeat it.

“People will recognise these opportunistic alliances. The NDA is ready to make a strong political advance in Kerala, overcoming all obstacles,” he said.
