Mathura | Security has been tightened here in view of the Janmashtami celebrations and the expected influx of devotees, officials said on Tuesday.

The DGP has directed the Mathura Police to remain vigilant and ensure foolproof security arrangements from September 3-5.

Janmashtami will be celebrated on September 4.

Directives have also been issued to maintain heightened vigil in mixed-population areas and take action against anti-social elements attempting to spread rumours or disturb communal harmony.

Police personnel have been asked to closely monitor social media platforms for misleading or objectionable content and take prompt action against those found circulating such material.

Traffic restrictions on several major roads have also been put in place, with all commercial and heavy vehicles, city buses, four-wheelers, e-rickshaws and two-wheelers restricted on roads leading to Sri Krishna Janmasthan from 8 am on September 3 to 9 am on September 5, the officials said.

Traffic restrictions will also be imposed on major routes leading to the Dwarikadhish Temple in the city.

The administration has made elaborate parking arrangements at multiple locations to facilitate devotees and prevent congestion.

As part of the traffic management between Mathura and Vrindavan, no vehicle will be allowed on the Chhatikara-Vrindavan road beyond the multi-level parking facility.

The administration said emergency services, including Fire tenders and ambulances, will remain exempt from the restrictions.
