Thane | A landslide struck a stretch of the busy Ghodbunder Road in Maharashtra's Thane city, as heavy stones and soil fell onto a road near a housing society, officials said on Tuesday.

No casualties were reported in the incident, which occurred on Monday evening, they said.

Large debris consisting of soil and heavy stones collapsed onto the public road margin adjacent to a residential complex in Bhayandarpada, Thane's Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) chief Yasin Tadvi said.

The emergency control room received information about the landslide at 8.40 pm on Monday. Emergency teams acted swiftly to prevent traffic disruption on the city's arterial road, the official said.

Earth excavators were deployed to remove rocks and debris, and the road was cleared for smooth traffic flow.

The nearby hillside area was cordoned off as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of pedestrians and commuters, he added.
