Sonia Gandhi reaches police station to visit detained Priyanka

New Delhi | Senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday night reached the Mandir Marg police station where her daughter and MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were detained along with other party leaders following a protest outside the PM's residence.

Sonia Gandhi spent some time with Priyanka and other leaders like Deepender Hooda and Supriya Srinate.

While some detained Congress leaders were taken to the Mandir Marg police station, other leaders were taken to the Kingsway camp police station. Rahul Gandhi and some others were shifted to Chhatrasal Stadium in Model Town.

Rahul, Priyanka and leaders of other opposition parties held a surprise sit-in outside the prime minister's residence. Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) Jitendra Singh, along with Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, went to the site to persuade them to vacate the sensitive site.

Rahul Gandhi's discussion with the minister lasted a few minutes, after which Singh and the home secretary left as the talks remained inconclusive.

Soon after Singh left the protest site, police forcibly removed and detained Rahul, Priyanka and other leaders in the evening.
