PM arrives on two-day visit to Assam

PM Modi arrived here on Saturday on a two-day visit to Assam during which he will unveil several projects worth around Rs 15,600 crore and address public meetings.

Guwahati | Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived here on Saturday on a two-day visit to Assam during which he will unveil several projects worth around Rs 15,600 crore and address public meetings.

The PM was received at the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport by Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his cabinet colleagues, Guwahati Mayor Mrigen Sarania and senior officials of the state government.

Modi drove to the new airport complex, about a kilometre away, where he will unveil an 80-foot statue of Assam's first chief minister Gopinath Bardoloi, sculpted by eminent artist Ram Sutar.

After unveiling the statue, he will inaugurate the Rs 4,000-crore new terminal of the Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi International Airport here, and spend around 15 minutes inside.

The Prime Minister is also scheduled to address a public meeting outside the terminal building.

Modi will then take part in a roadshow en route to the BJP headquarters in Bashista area, where he will interact with party workers.

The PM will spend the night at the state guest house in Khanapara area of the city.
