Cong's Mukul Wasnik replaces Digvijaya Singh as head of parliamentary panel on Education

New Delhi | After the retirement of Digvijaya Singh, Congress MP Mukul Wasnik has been appointed as the chairman of the department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports.

Digvijaya Singh's tenure as a Rajya Sabha member ended on June 21.

Wasnik's tenure as a member and chairman of the important panel started from June 22.

"The Chairman, Rajya Sabha, has nominated Shri Mukul Balkrishna Wasnik, Member, Rajya Sabha, to be a member of the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports and also appointed him to be its Chairman w.e.f. the 22nd June, 2026, in the vacancy that will arise therein due to the retirement of Shri Digvijaya Singh from the membership of Rajya Sabha," an official notification from the Rajya Sabha Secretariat said.

The all-important parliamentary committee had recently summoned top officials of the ministries of Education and Health, besides those of the National Medical Commission and the National Testing Agency on the recent paper leak row and the alleged irregularities in the CBSE onscreen marking system row.

The Rajya Sabha Chairman has also nominated Wasnik as a member of the Joint Committee on the Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan Bill, 2025, starting June 22, 2026, while filling the vacancy created by Singh.
