Navimumbai | Seawoods Malayali Samajam and one of Asia's largest railway station complexes, Nexus Mall, have joined hands to organize a giant flower carpet (‘Pookkalam’) and art and cultural events.
Giant ‘Pookkalam’ will be created on Sep 14th from 10.30 am onwards inside the Nexus Mall, Seawoods for the public. Various art programs will be staged in the mall on that day in the evening, from 4:30 pm to 9:30 pm.
Onam Opulence, an art evening based on the legends associated with Onam and Kerala, will include Kathakali, Theyyam, Mavelithampuran's (Mahabali) visit, Chendamelam, Thiruvathirakali and Mohiniyattam, in addition to the Mega Pookkalam event. Also, walking characters like Onapottans, Parasuraman and Vamanan will be lined up in Kalasandhya (the evening of the celebration).
The celebration is organized by Onam Opulence in such a way as to make outsiders familiar with Onam of the state and the culture of Kerala. Regardless of caste-religion-country-language - labor-society organization-nation-politics, the giant flower carpet of Nexus Mall prepared by Seawoods Samaj came forward to reach the flood-affected Kerala.
The artistic programs are planned in a way that evokes the unparalleled cultural diversity of Kerala. More than 100 Seawoods community artists create the flower carpet, which is approaching a record in size and participation.
This is not the first time that Seawoods Malayali Samajam, one of the most active societies in the city of Mumbai, has joined hands with Nexus Mall to produce mega flower carpet.
Onam opulence will be colorful with the sight of Onapottans joining hands with Theyyam, Vamanan and Parasuraman as walking characters in the event.
In the run-up to Onam, giant Pookkalam in the middle of Nexus Mall has become a festival awaited by other state people. Seawoods Malayali Samajam is organizing this program ahead of Onam celebrations on 14th September 4.30 in the evening at Nexus Mall Seawoods.
