Mumbai | The revamped Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana (MJPJAY) in Maharashtra, providing free treatment in all government hospitals to across the State appears all set to be launched in July. Under the revised scheme, the State Government has upped the amount allocated to a family to Rs 5 lakh from Rs 1.5 lakh.

It was recently that the State Government had zeroed in on United India Assurance as the insurance provider. The Government will pay a premium of Rs 1,300 per family covering 12.3 crore households. Sources said the Government aims to ensure that the scheme benefits poor and destitute patients.

State Health Minister Tanaji Sawant recently said the Government was now providing all kinds of treatments free of cost in government hospitals in the State. There are 2,418 such hospitals under the Public Health department. With the introduction of the revised scheme, treatment will be free of cost at primary health centres, rural hospitals, women's hospitals, district general hospitals, sub-district hospitals, referral service hospitals and cancer hospitals.

Earlier, only yellow, Antyodaya Anna Yojana, Annapurna and orange ration card holders were eligible. But in the wake of an agrarian crisis across the State, the revised scheme will include farmer families having white ration cards in all the 14 districts.
