Mumbai | An independent candidate surprised people at Solapur when he came dressed as Yamraj, the God of Death, atop a buffalo to file his nomination papers. Ram Gaikwad from Maharashtra's Madha Lok Sabha constituency came to the Collectorate and left many in the area aghast.

Dressed in a black dhoti and donning a glittering headgear, Gaikwad told the media that he came dressed up as Yamraj to end corruption in the country, ensure Maratha quota and prevent the government from misusing central investigative agencies against political opponents. His presence in a weird dress and also atop a buffalo, created interest among people around and some rushed to take his photograph. A section of the crowd was skeptical and saw it as nothing more than cheap publicity.

In case Gaikwad's nomination gets cleared he will be pitted against BJP's sitting MP Ranjitsinh Naik Nimbalkar and NCP's Dhairyasheel Mohite-Patil.
