Keralite bank employee found dead in hotel swimming pool in Karnataka

Gopu R Nair, 38, was found dead in the swimming pool of a private hotel in Mangalore, Karnataka. Police say he was under the influence of alcohol and lost control while swimming.

Mangalore | A bank employee was found dead in the swimming pool of a private hotel in the Mangalore city of Karnataka on Monday, police said.

According to the police, information was received at the South Police station that a body has been found in the swimming pool of the Moti Mahal hotel.

On reaching the spot and after verifying the facts, it was found that the deceased was Gopu R Nair, aged 38, a resident of Thiruvananthapuram.

Police commissioner Anupam Agarwal said “He is a bank employee and was in the town to attend a business conference. He checked into the hotel

yesterday at around 11 am. At 4 PM. He went swimming and probably under the influence of alcohol, lost control and died while swimming. He was staying alone in the hotel. The body was discovered this morning by the hotel staff. The entire activity has been recorded on the hotel's CCTV. An empty alcohol bottle has also been found in his room and seized.”

“A case has been registered in Unnatural Death Report (UDR) No 75/2023 of South PS and is being investigated accordingly,” he added.
