Kochi | A man died after a fire broke out at an oil company in the Edayar industrial area here on Thursday, officials said.

According to Fire and Rescue Services officials, the blaze erupted at Cee Jee Lubricants around 8.45 am.

Police said the deceased is suspected to be an employee of the factory, but his identity is yet to be confirmed.

Officials at the Fire and Rescue Services station in Eloor said fire tenders rushed to the spot soon after receiving a distress call and began efforts to bring the blaze under control.

A few employees who ran out after noticing the fire suffered minor injuries and were given medical aid, officials said.

"It appears the fire started near an oil tank and spread to other parts of the factory. We managed to bring the blaze under control. The oil tank was completely burnt," an official said.

Officials said a worker from Bihar has been reported missing and is suspected to be the deceased.

They added that the body recovered was completely charred and identification would be confirmed after further investigation.

"The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. It could be due to an electrical short circuit. However, a detailed examination is required," officials said.

Police have initiated an investigation into the incident, and a case will be registered soon.
