Kozhikode (Keralam) | A woman from West Bengal was arrested with 16 kg of ganja at the Kozhikode railway station on Sunday, police said.

The arrested woman has been identified as Minoti Sardar, a native of North 24 Parganas in West Bengal.

The seizure was made jointly by the Railway Police and the District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force (DANSAF), officials said.

According to police, Sardar was intercepted when she arrived on a train in the morning.

Preliminary interrogation by the Railway Police revealed that the ganja seized from Sardar was brought from the Andhra Pradesh border for distribution in Kozhikode, police said.

This is the second major ganja seizure at the Kozhikode railway station in the past two weeks, police said.

Last week, 18 kg of ganja was seized, and two natives of West Bengal were arrested in connection with the case.

Police suspect that the woman has links with members of the gang arrested last week and that more people may be involved in the network.

Extensive inspections focusing on trains have been conducted in recent days under the leadership of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Railway Police.

The accused was produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody, police said.
