Thiruvananthapuram | Kerala Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala on Tuesday said that he has sought the details of what happened that led to the release of the prime accused in the dental college student suicide case.

He told reporters that according to information he received, the police took all the requisite steps for the arrest of Dr M Kondanda Ram, the head of the Dental Anatomy Department of a private dental college in Kannur, and ultimately he was nabbed at Kodagu in Karnataka.

However, the lower court in which he was produced ordered his release after finding that the grounds of arrest had not been communicated to the accused.

While he was coming out of the court premises, the investigation team took him into custody again and left the premises.

Later, the Crime Branch team released Ram after issuing a notice seeking his appearance before the investigation officer on Tuesday.

The minister also said that the family of the student had come to see him, indicating their lack of faith in the Crime Branch probe, so we have decided to create a new investigation team.

"Have directed to form a new investigation team headed by Inspector General of Police Ajeetha Begum," he said.

Dr Ram was taken into custody after the Supreme Court dismissed his anticipatory bail plea on July 13.

The victim, Nithin Raj, a student of the private dental college at Anjarakandy, was found dead on April 10 after falling from a building on the college campus in a suspected suicide.

Ram and another faculty member, Dr Sangeetha Nambiar, have been booked for allegedly abetting Raj's suicide.

Nambiar, however, had earlier secured anticipatory bail from a court in Kannur.

According to the investigation, Raj, belonging to a Scheduled Caste, was insulted and intimidated by Ram in the classroom.

Ram was taken into custody from the hideout on Sunday night and brought to the Crime Branch office in Kannur
