Very heavy rains expected in northern Kerala districts next week

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday predicted very heavy rains in the northern districts of Kerala from next week.

Thiruvananthapuram | The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday predicted very heavy rains in the northern districts of Kerala from next week.

The IMD issued an orange alert in Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts for Monday.

It also issued an orange alert in Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts for Tuesday.

Besides that, it also issued a yellow alert in six districts—Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod—for Sunday (May 18).

Additionally, the IMD predicted thunderstorms and strong winds with a speed of 30 to 40 kmph at isolated places in Kerala from Friday to Tuesday.

An orange alert means very heavy rain of 11 cm to 20 cm, and a yellow alert means heavy rainfall between 6 cm and 11 cm.
