Uniform Civil Code a must for national unity and natural justice: DSJP

"The country is going through trying times and special privileges to any one community or religion militates against the oneness of the nation,"

Thiruvananthapuram | The Kerala-based Democratic Social Justice Party (DSJP) on Monday strongly supported the move by the NDA government at the Centre to introduce a Common Civil Code (CCC) for all citizens saying it will greatly strengthen national unity and safeguard the cause of natural justice especially of women.

In a letter to the Law Commission of India which sought opinions from public on UCC, the party president KSR Menon said the concept of a Uniform Civil Code is enshrined in the Directive Principle of state policy and it was high time a comprehensive UCC was framed and enacted.

He said the DSJP supported Uniform Civil Code because it believes in One Nation and One Law.

"The country is going through trying times and special privileges to any one community or religion militates against the oneness of the nation," he said.

However, the letter cautioned that the UCC should safeguard the sanctity of the institution of marriage so a to protect the interests of the children and maintain family values, a party statement added.
