Palakkad (Keralam) | CPI(M) state secretary M V Govindan on Monday alleged that the Congress-led UDF government in Kerala has surrendered to the BJP as it was taking decisions after discussions with the saffron party and not its own coalition partners.
Speaking to reporters here, Govindan alleged that the Students Federation of India (SFI) and the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) were not being allowed to protest as police were targeting their leaders and booking their activists under non-bailable offences.
"On the other hand, no such stringent provisions are invoked against activists of Yuva Morcha and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). This shows the deal with the BJP," he alleged.
He further said that there are already allegations that the government was taking decisions without discussions in the UDF or the Congress.
Govindan's contention comes in the wake of UDF convener Adoor Prakash's recent claim that key decisions of the state government were being taken without consulting allies.
Prakash, a Congress MP, said at a press conference last week that key decisions were being taken without consultation, UDF meetings were not being convened, and he was learning about important developments through the media.
Referring to the UDF convener's remarks, the CPI(M) state secretary alleged that "discussions are only being held with the BJP. The V D Satheesan government has surrendered to the BJP." Govindan also said that party leader E N Suresh Babu stepped down from the post of Palakkad district secretary on his own due to personal reasons and he was not removed by the party.
The CPI(M) state secretary also denied that any complaint was received against Babu.
