Kollam (Kerala) | Two women were arrested in connection with the torching of a motorcycle belonging to a civil police officer at his residence in this district, police said on Tuesday.

The accused were identified as Aarathi, a native of Sooranad, and Gayathri, hailing from Idukki district.

According to police, the bike belonging to V S Vivek, a police officer attached to the Aranmula police station, was set ablaze while it was parked in the car porch of his house around midnight on Saturday.

Though the households rushed out of the house after noticing flames and smoke, they did not find anyone at the spot.

The women were traced and arrested following an investigation based on CCTV visuals and other evidence collected from the area.

Police said personal issues between Aarathi and Vivek were suspected to be the motive behind the incident.

Meanwhile, police said claims that Aarathi had consumed poison while in custody were later found to be false, though she had been admitted to a hospital.
