The bodies of two persons who went missing after a boat carrying five people capsized in a waterlogged paddy field at Nedupuzha here were recovered on Saturday

Thrissur (Kerala) | The bodies of two persons who went missing after a boat carrying five people capsized in a waterlogged paddy field at Nedupuzha here were recovered on Saturday, police said.

Officials at the Nedupuzha police station said the identity of the deceased was yet to be confirmed.

The incident occurred around 6 pm on Friday at Mallithara Kadavu near Nedupuzha, when the group was travelling by boat to a leased paddy field to feed fish being reared there.

According to Fire and Rescue Services officials, the boat capsized midway through the flooded paddy field.

Three people managed to swim to safety, while the two others went missing.

Fire and Rescue Services personnel launched a search operation soon after the incident. However, heavy rain, poor visibility and adverse weather conditions hampered the rescue efforts on Friday night.

The search resumed on Saturday morning and the bodies were recovered, officials said.

They said the paddy field had been leased by a man identified as Suni for fish farming.

Suni was also in the boat and escaped.

Police said Suni had hired the deceased for work, but he has not yet regained consciousness to provide details about their identities.

Police have started an investigation into the incident.
