Two persons were arrested for allegedly abducting a youth over a drug deal and confined him at a house in Thamarassery here, officials said on Saturday.

Kozhikode (Kerala) | Two persons were arrested for allegedly abducting a youth over a drug deal and confined him at a house in Thamarassery here, officials said on Saturday.

The arrested were identified as Shihab and Ashwin, both natives of Kozhikode.

They allegedly abducted Muhammad Sajid of Mananthavady on May 5 and confined him to a rented house in Thamarassery, police said.

According to police, Shihab and his friends had gone to Bengaluru to procure drugs and Sajid had allegedly acted as a middleman in the deal.

Shihab had allegedly paid Rs 1.5 lakh for the drugs on May 3.

However, when neither the drugs nor the money were received, Shihab and three others allegedly abducted Sajid from Thamarassery late on May 5 and took him to the rented house, police said.

Police alleged that Sajid was brutally tortured there.

Acting on a tip-off, police rescued Sajid and registered a case charging the accused with abduction and attempt to commit culpable homicide on Friday.

Police said a search was on for the two other accused.

The arrested persons would be produced before a court on Saturday as part of remand procedures, police added.
