Teen killed in cracker explosion in Kozhikode district

Kozhikode (Kerala) | A 15-year-old boy was killed in a firecracker accident during Vishu celebrations at Koyilandy here on Wednesday, police said.

The deceased was identified as Adwaith A K, who was bursting crackers as part of the Vishu celebration at a temple ground in Korayangad near Koyilandy, they said.

According to police, the incident occurred around 4 pm when the boy allegedly placed a firecracker under a steel container to create a louder sound.

However, when the cracker exploded, a piece of the container pierced his neck, causing severe injuries, police said.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries, they added.

Police officials said Adwaith, a Class 10 student, had imitated the method after watching similar videos on YouTube.

Police have registered a case and started an investigation.

The body will be handed over to relatives after postmortem on Thursday, police said.
