Tamil Nadu's objection dismissed; Comprehensive safety inspection in Mullaperiyar Dam within 12 months

Kerala took a strong position in the meeting of Mullaperiyar Supervisory Committee that comprehensive safety inspection should be conducted prior to its maintenance work.

Thiruvananthapuram | Kerala gains in Mullaperiyar dam issue. The Central Water Commission has accepted Kerala's demand for a comprehensive safety inspection of the dam.

Kerala took a strong position in the meeting of Mullaperiyar  Supervisory Committee that comprehensive safety inspection  should be conducted prior to its maintenance work. Kerala also stated that Tamil Nadu's demand to repair the dam first cannot be accepted.

A decision has been taken to complete the detailed safety inspection of the dam, which Kerala has been constantly demanding, within 12 months. An empowered committee appointed by the Supreme Court had previously conducted such a detailed examination in 2011.

The committee, comprising independent experts, will examine the structural safety, earthquake safety, flood safety and operational safety of the dam, including an agenda proposed by Kerala.
