Special teams to be constituted to fight drug menace, says Kerala police chief

Thiruvananthapuram | Kerala police chief Shaik Darvesh Saheb on Monday said action against the drug mafia will be strengthened in the state.

He said separate teams will be constituted on a police range basis to curb the drug menace in the state.

"We will soon constitute such teams on an experimental basis. They will be given special training on various subjects, including legal, scientific, forensic, and procedural, to deal with the menace," he told reporters here.

He opined that the children who got trapped in the net of the drug mafia unknowingly should be treated as victims so that they can be brought out of it.

He said the police personnel, parents, and school authorities should take steps to help such children.

Saheb, who took charge as the state police chief on Friday, said measures would be taken to provide improved services to the people reaching the police stations seeking assistance.

He urged his force to be courteous to those arriving at the station, listen patiently to their complaints, and inform them periodically about the progress of the investigation.

Saheb also underlined that discipline has paramount importance in the force, and strict action would be taken in cases of breach of discipline.

"The process of dismissing the officers involved in serious cases will continue," he said.

The new police chief made it clear that there would be no compromise on the issue of women's security in the state.

"Steps would be taken to ensure the safety of women," he said.

Saheb warned of strict action against those involved in goonda gang attacks in the state.

He also spoke about the steps being taken for capacity building to check cyber crimes.
