Thrissur (Kerala) | Forest Department officials, along with a snake rescue volunteers' team, are conducting a search at a house in Kodaly here where an eight-year-old boy died after a snakebite, and later five snakes were spotted on the premises, officials said on Friday.
The incident occurred on April 18 when the boy and his brother were bitten by a juvenile Common krait while they were asleep in their bedroom.
The child succumbed to the bite, while his brother is undergoing treatment at a hospital.
According to officials, five Common kraits of similar size were found in the house following the incident, prompting an extensive search operation.
Forest officials are assisted by SARPA volunteers trained in snake rescue.
Officials said that after three snakes were spotted in one bedroom, the search was extended to the room's toilet area, where a small hole was found.
The officials broke open the toilet's basement to check whether there were more snakes in the area.
Authorities suspect the snakes may have hatched from eggs laid on the premises, leading to multiple juveniles being found inside the house.
The family has temporarily moved to a relative's home due to safety concerns following repeated snake sightings.
Due to the intense summer heat, experts have warned that snakes may enter houses in search of shade, cooler surroundings, and prey such as rodents.
