Refrain from public statements on CM candidate or face action, warns KPCC chief

KPCC Chief Sunny Joseph directed Congress leaders and workers to refrain from making public statements regarding the selection of the CM if the party-led UDF returns to power

Thiruvananthapuram | KPCC Chief Sunny Joseph on Saturday directed Congress leaders and workers to refrain from making public statements regarding the selection of the Chief Minister if the party-led UDF returns to power, warning that violations would be treated as indiscipline.

In a statement, Joseph said such remarks, made through print, visual and social media platforms, were inappropriate and were causing embarrassment to the party in the public domain.

The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) chief said the ongoing public discussions on the issue have fuelled strong discontent among Congress workers as well as sections of the people who supported the UDF.

Joseph also said the All India Congress Committee (AICC) had issued strict instructions to avoid such debates.

However, as some leaders continued to ignore the directive, the KPCC was compelled to reiterate its warning.

He cautioned that any further violations would be viewed seriously and dealt with as a breach of party discipline.

The KPCC Chief issued a statement in the wake of an ongoing row over the chief ministerial face in the Congress-led UDF with sections of leaders and workers engaging in a public debate despite clear directions from the party leadership to desist from such discussions.
