Prominent Congress members to join BJP a day before PM's visit, Kerala chief K Surendran

Pathanamthitta (Kerala) | Days after Padmaja Venugopal, daughter of Congress stalwart K Karunakaran, joined the BJP, its state chief on Wednesday said more prominent members of the grand old party would join the saffron party on March 14, the eve of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's next visit to Kerala.

Speaking to reporters here, BJP state President K Surendran said that members of not just the Congress, but the ruling LDF in the state would also be joining the saffron party in the coming days.

"Many prominent Congress members will join the BJP in Thiruvananthapuram tomorrow, March 14, ahead of the PM's visit to Kerala. In the coming days, every day, members from both fronts -- UDF and LDF -- will join the BJP," he claimed.

Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to visit Kerala's Palakkad on March 15 to campaign for the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) candidates for the Lok Sabha polls.

Following this, on March 17, Modi will undertake another visit to Pathanamthitta to rally support for Anil K Antony, the BJP candidate and son of Congress stalwart A K Antony.

These would be Modi's fourth and fifth visits to the state within a span of three months.

In January, Modi visited the state twice, and he made an additional visit in February, attending both official engagements and party-related functions.
