Police interrogate ''Mollywood Times'' producer in censor violation case

Police interrogated the producer of "Mollywood Times" here as part of an investigation into allegations that scenes and dialogues ordered to be deleted by the CBFC were screened

Thiruvananthapuram | Police interrogated the producer of the Malayalam film "Mollywood Times" here on Saturday as part of an investigation into allegations that scenes and dialogues ordered to be deleted by the CBFC were screened in theatres, officials said.

Producer Ashiq Usman appeared before the Thiruvallam police after being served a notice.

Police sources said the film's director, distributor, digital cinema content service providers and theatre owners, who have also been named as accused in the case, would be questioned in the coming days.

The Thiruvallam police registered the case on June 17 based on a complaint filed by the regional officer of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

The CBFC had issued a U/A 16+ certificate to the film, starring actor Naslen, after directing the makers to delete certain scenes and objectionable dialogues.

However, police alleged that after the film's release on June 5, it was screened with unapproved changes and included dialogues that had been ordered to be removed by the censor board.

The case has been registered under Section 7(1)(a)(ii) of the Cinematograph Act, which deals with exhibiting a film in violation of the conditions of its certification.
