One killed after school van hits crane in Keralam

A school van driver was killed, and six staff members of an institution were injured after the vehicle hit a parked crane at Navaikulam here on Thursday

Thiruvananthapuram | A school van driver was killed, and six staff members of an institution were injured after the vehicle hit a parked crane at Navaikulam here on Thursday, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Shaji, a native of Nagaroor and driver of MGM Model School, Ayiroor near Varkala.

According to police, the incident occurred around 11 am when the school van, driven by Shaji, lost control and rammed into a crane parked as part of roadwork.

Though Shaji was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, he succumbed to his injuries, police said.

Police said six staff members, including teachers, who were in the vehicle sustained injuries and were admitted to nearby hospitals.

Kallambalam police have started an investigation into the incident.

A case will be registered, police added.
