No POCSO case accused should be invited to school programmes: Minister V Sivankutty

Kerala General Education Minister V Sivankutty on Wednesday made it clear that no POCSO case accused be made part of any school event in state-run institutions.

Thiruvananthapuram | Kerala General Education Minister V Sivankutty on Wednesday made it clear that no POCSO case accused be made part of any school event in state-run institutions.

The minister also said that the recent incident of a POCSO case accused taking part in a reopening ceremony held at a state-run school here, was a failure on the part of the institution.

"The school or its teachers cannot claim they were not aware of who the person was. There is a failure on their part," he told reporters here.

The minister said that the Headmistress of the school concerned met him in the morning and informed him that the accused was invited by a voluntary organisation which provides notebooks, textbooks and other study materials to the institution.

The Headmistress also told him that the organisation has admitted that it was an inadvertent mistake on their part.

"I made it clear that inviting such a person to a school event was not right. Such individuals should not be invited for any school-related events," Sivankutty said.

The Kerala General Education Department had on Tuesday ordered a probe into an incident in which the accused in a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act had reportedly taken part in a state-run school's reopening ceremony.

According to media reports, the accused, also a noted vlogger, took part as a celebrity guest in the "praveshanotsavam", the reopening ceremony, held at the school here on Monday.
