Minister Anil Kumar backs CM, says his stand on Vizhinjam share transfer is govt position

Kerala Revenue Minister A P Anil Kumar on Monday threw his weight behind Chief Minister V D Satheesan in the row over the proposed share transfer in the Vizhinjam Seaport project, asserting that the CM's statement reflected the official stand of the state government.

Thiruvananthapuram | Kerala Revenue Minister A P Anil Kumar on Monday threw his weight behind Chief Minister V D Satheesan in the row over the proposed share transfer in the Vizhinjam Seaport project, asserting that the CM's statement reflected the official stand of the state government.

Anil Kumar said there was no need for every minister in the cabinet to repeat the government's position on the issue.

Kumar's remarks assume significance amid reports in a section of the media suggesting differences within the Congress over the stand taken by the Chief Minister on the proposed share transfer of the Vizhinjam port.

"The Chief Minister has already stated authoritatively that no proposal regarding such a share transfer has come before the government. Once the Chief Minister has made the government's stand clear, there is no need for each minister to repeat it every day," he told media here.

He added that the remaining issues could be decided at a later stage.

The revenue minister reacted to the issue amid sustained attacks by the opposition LDF against Satheesan over the proposed share transfer in the Vizhinjam port project.

The Chief Minister had recently expressed the state government's displeasure over Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd's (APSEZ) proposal to transfer its 49 per cent stake in Adani Vizhinjam Port Private Limited (AVPPL), the concessionaire of the Vizhinjam International Seaport, to Switzerland-based shipping major Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) without informing the state government.

Satheesan had maintained that the government had not granted approval for the proposed transaction and that the matter would be examined by an empowered committee in accordance with the provisions of the concession agreement.

However, the LDF alleged that the proposed share transfer had taken place with the knowledge of either the top leadership of the ruling UDF or Chief Minister Satheesan. They also claimed that there was "some mystery" surrounding the proposed transaction
