A 64-year-old man was killed on Tuesday when a wild elephant attacked him while he was working in a rubber plantation near Peruvanthanam in this hill district, police said here.

Idukki (Kerala) | A 64-year-old man was killed on Tuesday when a wild elephant attacked him while he was working in a rubber plantation near Peruvanthanam in this hill district, police said here.

Purushothaman, from Thampalakkad in Kanjirappally, was tapping rubber trees at Mathampa when the elephant appeared suddenly from the nearby forest.

"He tried to run, but the elephant charged at him," a police officer said.

His body has been taken to the Government Medical College Hospital in Kottayam for a post-mortem examination, he said.
