Kochi | A 19-year-old worker was killed after a lift at a warehouse of a commercial establishment collapsed in Muvattupuzha in Ernakulam district, police said on Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Akshay Krishnan, a native of Peringazha near Muvattupuzha, they said.

The incident occurred around 2 pm at the warehouse of a shop housed in a newly constructed three-storey municipal building at Vellorkunnam on Monday.

Akshay, an employee of the shop, had gone to the warehouse to collect some items stored on the upper floors when the lift collapsed, police said.

He was found lying on the floor at the warehouse later, they said.

He was rushed to a nearby private hospital and later shifted to a hospital in Thodupuzha, where he succumbed to his injuries, police said.

CCTV footage aired by television channels on Tuesday showed the lift falling down and Akshay being thrown onto the floor.
