Thiruvananthapuram | A man was charred to death after a running car caught fire at Venganoor here early on Monday, police said.

The incident occurred around midnight when the running car suddenly caught fire near Mahatma Ayyankali Smarakam in Venganoor, police said.

An autorickshaw driver who witnessed the car catching fire, accompanied by a minor explosion, alerted the police, following which Fire and Rescue Services personnel rushed to the spot.

Though the fire was doused, the car was completely gutted and the man inside was found dead, officials said.

Police said neither the identity of the deceased nor the registration number of the car could be ascertained as both were badly charred.
