Kannur (Kerala) | Police have issued a lookout circular against a man who allegedly fled the country following an investigation into the death of his wife here, officials said on Friday.
The Valapattanam Police, which has invoked charges of abetment of suicide, issued the lookout circular against Asif, the husband of the deceased, Fathimatha Risa.
According to police, the 20-year-old woman was found dead at her residence in Poithumkadavu on July 28.
Police had initially registered a case of unnatural death but later added charges of abetment of suicide following the investigation.
The probe found that Risa was allegedly subjected to physical and mental harassment after her marriage, police said.
Investigators have also recovered a suicide note and examined WhatsApp messages she had sent to her friends, in which she allegedly described her ordeal.
Although police began tracking Asif, it is suspected that he had already left the country and reached Dubai.
Officials at the Valapattanam Police Station said a lookout circular has been issued to ensure his arrest upon his return to India.
Efforts are also being made, with the assistance of central agencies, to bring him back to the country, officials said.
Police have recorded the statements of Risa's parents and will soon question Asif's family members as part of the investigation, they added.
