Lightning strikes kill one, injure five in Kozhikode district

Kozhikode (Kerala) | One person died and five others sustained injuries in two separate incidents of lightning strikes in this district on Sunday, officials said.

According to police, one person died and another was injured in a lightning strike at Koombara in Koodaranji.

The deceased was identified as Jaison, who was at a poultry farm in Mundumala, Koombara, when he was struck by lightning, police said. The injured person in the incident was rushed to a nearby hospital.

Police said four others were injured in another lightning strike at Nerukumchal in Thamarassery.

Officials said the injured persons were women and have been shifted to the hospital, and their condition is stable.

The high-range areas of Kozhikode district witnessed heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning on Sunday evening, officials said.

Last week, four youngsters were killed and three others injured in a lightning strike at Mankada in Malappuram district.
