Kollam (Kerala) | An adult leopard that had been killing domestic animals was caught in a cage trap set at Piravanthoor in Kollam on Saturday, Forest officials said.

According to Forest officials, the cage trap was set at Alimikku near Piravanthoor, where attacks on domestic animals had been frequently reported over the last month.

The last such incident was reported on July 29, when goats at a house in the area were killed.

Following the incident, the Forest Department examined the area and confirmed the presence of a leopard, officials said.

A cage trap was subsequently set at an isolated location close to the forest.

The leopard was caught in the trap on Saturday morning, officials said.

The leopard, along with the cage, will be shifted to a nearby forest station, officials said.

Its health condition will be evaluated before a decision is taken on whether to release it into the forest, they added.
