KSRTC driver booked over alleged abusive WhatsApp post targeting Kerala CM, Home Minister

Thiruvananthapuram | A case has been registered against a KSRTC driver for allegedly posting an abusive message against Chief Minister V D Satheesan and State Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala on a WhatsApp group over the state's free bus travel scheme for women, police said on Sunday.

The accused, identified as Tomy, is a temporary driver with the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) attached to the Kattakada depot, police said.

According to the police, the case was registered based on a complaint filed by a Youth Congress leader.

Tomy posted an abusive message targeting the Chief Minister and the Home Minister in a WhatsApp group of KSRTC drivers over the Priyadarshini scheme, under which women are allowed to travel free on ordinary buses of the Corporation across Kerala.

The complainant submitted screenshots of the WhatsApp message as evidence, police said.

A case has been registered under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Kerala Police Act.

Officials at the Kattakada police station said the investigation has begun, and the accused's statement will be recorded soon.
