Kochi | KPCC chief Sunny Joseph said the party is seeking an amicable solution to the issues between Congress MLA Ramya Haridas and party workers in Chirayinkeezhu, Thiruvananthapuram.

The KPCC had appointed an inquiry commission headed by senior leader MM Hassan after Haridas clashed with party workers at Chirayinkeezhu on September 4.

Haridas had alleged that she was attacked and threatened by local Congress leaders, while district panchayat member Sajith Muttambalam and party leader Sajad gave a different account, alleging that the MLA and her associates had confronted them over a WhatsApp post, following which a scuffle broke out.

Haridas, a Dalit woman and a prominent Congress face in Keralam, allegedly sustained injuries in the incident and sought treatment at the Chirayinkeezhu taluk hospital.

Following the initial inquiry, two party workers were suspended.

Speaking to reporters here, Joseph said Hassan had submitted his inquiry report to the KPCC.

"KPCC will proceed with action based on the report," he said.

Asked about possible disciplinary action against Haridas, Joseph said the party was looking for an amicable solution.

"We are seeking an amicable resolution. There should be amicable conduct from everyone's side," he said.

On the state government's decision on the Enforcement Directorate's letter seeking registration of a corruption case against Leader of Opposition in the Keralam Pinarayi Vijayan, his daughter Veena T and son-in-law and MLA PA Muhammad Riyas, Joseph said legal opinion had been sought.

"Based on a Cabinet decision, legal advice is being sought on the steps to be taken by the government. Once legal counsel is received, appropriate lawful action will follow," he said.

The ED recently sent a letter to DGP Ravada A Chandrasekhar seeking registration of an FIR against CPI(M) veteran and former Chief Minister Vijayan and his family in connection with the alleged Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited (CMRL) bribery case, based on "evidence" gathered during its probe and searches conducted under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The ED has alleged that CMRL made fraudulent payments of Rs 2.78 crore to Veena's now-defunct company, Exalogic Solutions, under the guise of "IT consultancy services".

The federal agency had searched premises linked to Veena, who was living with Vijayan at a rented accommodation in Thiruvananthapuram, in May and subsequently questioned her.
