Kochi | The VACB seized unaccounted cash of Rs 14.10 lakh and USD 788 from the residence of a GST joint commissioner in Kochi during a search in connection with a disproportionate assets case, officials said on Sunday.

According to the VACB, a search was conducted at the residence of Prajani Rajan, Joint Commissioner in the State Goods and Services Tax Department, at Pachalam here on Saturday as part of the investigation into a disproportionate assets case registered against her.

A preliminary inquiry by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau found that Rajan had allegedly acquired assets disproportionate to her known sources of income, estimated at around Rs 2.89 crore, between 2014 and 2024, officials said.

Searches were conducted at three locations—her office at Thevara, her residence at Pachalam and another residence of hers in Pachalam.

The searches began at 7.45 am and concluded at 9.15 pm, the VACB said.

The searches were conducted by a team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police A L Yesudas under the supervision of Ernakulam Special Cell Superintendent of Police M J Sojan.

The seized cash and documents will be produced before the Muvattupuzha Vigilance Court, the VACB said.
