Thiruvananthapuram | BJP councillor and former DGP R Sreelekha on Saturday appeared to take a dig at former DGP Tomin J Thachankary, who is serving a prison sentence in a disproportionate assets case, saying the hospital block of the Central Jail here was much cleaner than its cells.

In a Facebook post without naming Thachankary, the retired IPS officer said the hospital block had good beds, mattresses, pillows, fans, clean toilets, facilities for staying alone, a beautiful garden and special food.

She said these facilities had been improved when she was the DGP of the prison department.

"Now, if someone is benefiting from it well, I am happy," Sreelekha said in the post, apparently referring to Thachankary.

A Vigilance court in Kottayam on Thursday sentenced Thachankary to four years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 30.84 lakh for amassing wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income.

He was later shifted to Poojappura Central Jail in Thiruvananthapuram. According to sources, he was lodged in the prison's hospital block after complaining of health issues.

In 2016, Sreelekha, who was then serving as an ADGP, accused Thachankary of "harassing" her for nearly three decades, triggering a controversy.

In a Facebook post at the time, she alleged that he had been harassing her since their civil service training period.

Thachankary, who was then serving as the Transport commissioner, denied the allegations and said he would take up the matter with his higher-ups.
