Keralam police inspector suspended over woman’s allegation of promise to marry

A police inspector was suspended on Sunday following a departmental inquiry into a woman's complaint alleging that he had impregnated her after promising to marry her, officials said.

Pathanamthitta (Keralam) | A police inspector was suspended on Sunday following a departmental inquiry into a woman's complaint alleging that he had impregnated her after promising to marry her, officials said.

T K Vinod Krishna was suspended based on a report submitted by the Pathanamthitta District Police Chief to the Inspector General of Police, who issued the suspension order, they said.

Krishna was serving as an Inspector at the District Crime Records Bureau in Pathanamthitta, officials said.

The 28-year-old woman recently approached the District Police Chief, alleging that Krishna had impregnated her after promising to marry her.

Krishna had earlier served as Station House Officer (SHO) at Elavumthitta police station, where he became acquainted with the woman.

He was later transferred to Peroorkada police station in Thiruvananthapuram district in connection with arrangements for the Assembly elections.

The woman allegedly accompanied him and stayed with him there, officials said.

The departmental inquiry found that Krishna had taken the woman with him when he travelled to Hyderabad as part of a case investigation.

Krishna had allegedly promised to marry the woman after separating from his first wife. However, he later backed out of the promise, police said.

The woman has refused to file a formal police complaint in the matter, officials said.

Police have sought legal opinion on whether they can register a case on their own, they added.
