Palakkad (Keralam) | Keralam Health Minister K Muraleedharan on Thursday said the shortage of medicines in government hospitals has been almost completely resolved and rejected allegations of medical negligence in a case that had triggered protests.
Speaking to reporters here, Muraleedharan said the initial reason cited for the protests was the non-availability of medicines, but allegations of medical negligence were raised after medicines started arriving.
"Now, when medicines started arriving, they claimed medical negligence. However, when an investigation into the alleged medical negligence was conducted, it was found that the person wasn't even admitted to the hospital," he said.
Referring to protests in Kannur, the minister said he has not removed any doctor from Pariyaram Medical College since assuming office and that doctors and staff appointed during the previous Pinarayi Vijayan government were still working there.
"Whoever they are, they are carrying out their duties well," he said.
Muraleedharan said the protests are taking place ahead of the Assembly session and added that an adjournment motion was likely to be moved in the House.
"I have all the necessary details and evidence ready to reply on that day," he said.
On the shortage of medicines, the minister said the situation has been almost completely resolved.
"Medicine for haemophilia arrived in Keralam yesterday. Another medicine for haemophilia is not available in the country now," he said.
