Kerala polls: ISJD announces candidates for 3 seats; Minister Krishnankutty not to contest

ISJD, formed after splitting from the JD(S) in Kerala, on Monday announced candidates for three constituencies in the Assembly election to be held on April 9.

Thiruvananthapuram | ISJD, formed after splitting from the JD(S) in Kerala, on Monday announced candidates for three constituencies in the Assembly election to be held on April 9.

Electricity Minister K Krishnankutty will not contest the election.

In January this year, leaders of the Janata Dal (Secular) in Kerala merged with the newly formed India Socialist Janata Dal (ISJD), as the former was an ally of the NDA, while in Kerala, the party was associated with the LDF.

Sitting MLA Mathew T Thomas will contest from Thiruvalla. Murugadas will contest from Chittoor in Palakkad, and Sabu George from Ernakulam.

At a press conference, Krishnankutty said the decision on the Kovalam seat would be finalised by Tuesday.

"There were long discussions over the Kovalam we contested in the last Assembly election. Some allies have made claims for the seat. The final decision will be made by Tuesday," he said.

Krishnankutty said the LDF would return to power as unprecedented development had taken place under the Left government in Kerala.

He also said that he would remain active in politics.

This will be the first electoral contest for the leaders after the formation of the ISJD.
