Thiruvananthapuram | Police got a taste of their own medicine after the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation imposed a fine on the Kerala Police for allegedly placing a flex board as part of a sports event within the city limits, officials on Monday said.

The Thiruvananthapuram Corporation secretary on September 15 issued a fine of Rs 15,030 to the State Police Chief for allegedly placing flex boards at public places in PMG and Vazhuthacaud here, officials said.

The flex boards were allegedly put up as part of a police sports event held in the city a few weeks ago.

The fine was imposed in accordance with a Kerala High Court direction to the police and local bodies to remove flex boards from public places and impose fines on those who put them up, officials said.

Police sources said the State Police Chief had forwarded the fine notice issued by the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation to the organisers of the event and directed them to take necessary steps.

The Thiruvananthapuram Corporation had in January this year imposed a fine of Rs 19.7 lakh on the BJP for allegedly placing flex boards in the city ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit following the local body election victory in the state capital.
